My name is Jesse Nuese, and I’m the Co-founder and CEO of Forward Horizon Group, a boutique frontier markets and security consulting firm with a focus on emerging technologies. I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin, which I left at 18 to join the US Army, where I served as a paratrooper and an infantryman, including a 9 month combat deployment to Afghanistan. Since leaving the service, I’ve been lucky to study around the world, from New York to Beijing, from Boston to the United Kingdom. I’ve done research on Chinese techno-economic competition, the evolution of Russian intelligence services, and the financial risks of cyber attacks, as well as led small teams of US veterans through Ukraine in support of humanitarian operations. I like to think these experiences have allowed me to cultivate a unique perspective on global events - and Future // History means to share a small slice of that perspective with others.
Force Majeure is a french phrase that means “act of god”. It has found its way into common legal use since its use in the Napoleonic codes, and as the world that continues to grow more and more complex, and the velocity and volume of information available to the individual increases with each passing day, I find myself reaching across a diverse set of media sources in order to run my business, or even just to understand the news!
Future // History will post a twice-monthly note on Mondays and those posts will always be available to free subscribers.
The Monday note will be in the style of a briefing or a memo, with upcoming events, like elections, earning calls for industry leading firms, or Federal Reserve meetings. Each note will contain three-to-five key stories about economics, politics, or technology, as well as a concise summary of a heuristic, bias, or analytical framework, in order to provide further means for the reader to think deeply about the world around them.
Future // History aims to be a guide for helping the reader make sense of an increasingly connected and complicated world. A digital zine, best taken with coffee or a cigarette, intended to make you consider the issues at hand from an unconventional lens. A collection of selected economic data-points, frontline political stories, and cultural goings-on that will help you navigate the world around you, or at least, make for good conversational fodder.
From Security and Politics to Emerging Technology and Markets - Future // History is powered by Forward Horizon Group’s unique Research and Intelligence practice.
Future // History is for anyone looking for fresh ways to understand our world as it grows more and more complicated by the day. It’s a big tent and divergent perspectives are welcome. Covering security, politics, technology, markets, and culture from macro to micro, I hope to be able to provide the reader with new data points, new angles to consider, and new avenues for exploration.
